Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed direct peace talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a third country in an open letter, including a ceasefire along the current front line and a comprehensive prisoner exchange.

According to the President's Office in Kyiv, the letter was published. It states: "I propose a meeting with you." The leaders should discuss the "key issues" themselves. Representatives from Europe and the United States could participate in the talks as possible guarantors, according to the proposal.

According to information from Kyiv, the proposal was followed by several concrete steps: The meeting could be followed by a prisoner exchange "all for all" and the return of civilians and children "abducted during the war." Zelenskyy also proposed a ceasefire along the current front line, which should be monitored by the United States.
