President Donald Trump said on Friday he would not sign a bipartisan housing affordability bill, allowing it to become law automatically at midnight without his signature.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he was withholding his signature to pressure the Senate into passing the SAVE America Act, a separate election measure that has stalled in the upper chamber. "I will not sign the Housing Bill, which has been fully approved by Congress and sent to the White House, in PROTEST over the fact that the United States Senate is not capable of passing THE SAVE AMERICA ACT," Trump wrote. The 10-day clock for presidential action was set to expire at 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday night, after which the bill would take effect without his signature.
